(More customer reviews)This mount is actually several pieces of different GPS/Device mounts from different brands that have been hastily modified to allow for iPad GPS mounting. The bag is actually a Bracketron Dash-Mat that weighs only 1.1 pounds compared to the iPad itself which weighs 1.7 pounds. As you might guess, this could cause some issues in terms of the bag holding the iPad still (since the dash-mat, according to the Bracketron website, is only meant to carry small mobile devices below 1 pound in weight). In addition to the lack of support caused by the inadequate weight (unless you contort the flexible goose-neck to a rather absurd angle, which doesn't help much either), there are several other issues. Primarily, the mount relies on a clip-on type backing that you attach to the iPad and then to the goose-neck mount. The problem with this backing is that it clips on far too securely and thus cannot be taken off for regular use of the iPad. During the time that I owned this product before returning it (which was scarcely a week, I might add), I was forced to leave the backing on the entire time, which made the iPad very unwieldy when not being used as a GPS. In the process of attempting to take off the backing the first time, I actually cracked the plastic of the backing, which can tell you alot about how cheap the plastics are in the product. Also, the adapter slot that is on the back of the iPad backing is NOT permanently attached or molded. You'll find that after enough force in attempting to remove the iPad from the goose-neck mount (which is even more ridiculously secure [in the bad sense] than the backing), it is easily possible for the adapter clip which had been hastily pressed on to the backing to completely come off. At this point, your mount could be rendered useless. Thus, in attempting to use it as a dash mount in my car, it was unable to support the weight. This could easily be an even greater issue for cars with smaller dashboards, where the iPad itself might hang over the end of the dash. I was forced to use the suction cup mount and attach it directly to the windshield. This held well enough, but it was not without problems. The pivot point on the neck, which allows you to "easily" reorient your iPad, relies on a giant plastic nut, which must be unscrewed and screwed every time the iPad is adjusted. EXTREMELY inconvenient. In addition, the neck's flexibility actually creates a ton of vibration, to the point where when I drove on mildly degraded roads, the bumps would cause my Navigon app to reorient into portrait mode for a split second, because the vibrations had caused the internal accelerometer of the iPad to jump. All in all, this product is absolutely terrible. Expensive, poorly conceived, and even more poorly made.
I would highly suggest instead the Bedox iPad beanbag mount, as it was custom designed for the iPad, weighs 2.5 pounds, has an adjustable ball bearing neck, and is also cheaper. I bought this mount as an alternative and am extremely pleased with how well it functions. Plus, since the Bedox mount doesn't rely on a backing to secure the iPad, I was able to instead choose my own case for the safety of my iPad.
