The imagery not only covers the US area, but also have the global coverage. Please be aware that the imagery you can download to your device is not the same as the imagery in the Google Earth. So, even you can find 2-3 meter resolution image in the Google Earth at the place you interested, you may end up only has the LANDSAT (~15 m) image from the BirdEye Subscription. Unfortunately, Garmin will not tell you the image coverage in advance. If you want to use this service in a specified area, it would be better if you can ask someone who has the subscription to check the image quality for you before you pay the money.
If the area that you interested is covered by the high-res imagery (like QuickBird) and you don't have the topo map in your device, this service will help you A LOT! The LANDSAT images usually are not that useful, but it still can help you to locate your help in some degree.
The download speed is not very fast, and you are not allowed to download more than 120MB of imagery in once. It may take nearly 2 hrs to download ~60MB's imagery. As the result, It would be wise if you can split your interest area into several peaces and each of them smaller than 120MB. It would also help if you only download the standard quality for the overall-viewing map, and select several interesting spots for the highest quality of imagery. Download the imagery ahead of your trip also help you to manage the slow data-transfer problem.
Overall, I think this is a very USEFUL service IF you DO NOT have the detail topo of the area; for example, hiking/backpacking in the Southeast Asia... If you will use your device within US, this service dose not help you that much (I will use topo instead). Since I am going to use my GPS in the remote area that the latest topo maps were made in 1940s, I am happy to spend my $30 in this subscription.
