Haven't actually 'used' it yet, but here are some initial impressions:
Pluses :
1. Seems very well constructed. No cheap plastic here.
2. Seems very flexible - able to mount on many different locations.
3. Looking at www.ram-mount.com, it seems they they make many, many different products that can work with other products they make. For example, I can take the cradle for my Delorme PN-40 GPS and attach it to a different mount, say on my bicycle. When I'm done with that, I could switch it back to my boat.
Minuses :
1. NO installation instructions included. Poo! Went to the manufacturer's website but they have so many mounts I couldn't find the right one, let alone find the directions for it.
No, it wasn't that hard to figure out, but there are many different nuts and bolts, 2 u-bolts, several plastic pieces. It was a bit of a puzzle, but not that hard. However, if I used the wrong parts in the wrong place, I could have a failure of the mount and damage or loss to my GPS.
However, the manufacturer was very kind and thoughtful to include a nice brochure with other products they make.
2. VERY difficult to snap the GPS into the cradle. I still had the hand strap on the top, and that may have interfered a little. I'll try it with the strap off in a few days.
3. Packed in the 'slice your hands getting the package open' clear plastic package. I know everyone is doing it but it is still obnoxious and hazardous.
Other Comments
1. The arm is not as long as I thought it would be. Perhaps I saw wanted I wanted to see, it just wasn't as long as I expected. I think it's OK for what it is intended. I think I can also purchase a longer arm.
2. I have to wonder how UV rays will affect the plastic.
