(More customer reviews)Being a previous, satisfied owner of a TomTom One XL, I bought this to upgrade my old unit. I have not owned another brand of GPS unit.
Upon receiving the XXL 550, I immediately went online, connected the unit to my computer, and attempted to update the internal maps using the "Latest Map Guarantee" function. Unfortunately, I received a message which stated, "Latest Map Guarantee has expired". This was because I bought a refurbished unit.
I contacted the TomTom customer support unit, and talked to "Ramona". I must say, I had the BEST customer service experience EVER with Ramona. She apologized (sincerely) for my not being able to access the "Latest Map Guarantee" function. She asked if I could scan or take a photo of my invoice and email it to her - I said I could do that - SHE WAITED ON THE PHONE WHILE I DID IT. After she received the copy of the invoice, she promptly made the map update available to me. It was a totally first rate customer service experience! All said, I was on the phone with her for about 20 minutes.
As for the XXL 550 - it is everything I expected from a TomTom. Large bright screen, very easy to mount securely on the window (MUCH easier than my TomTom One XL), and accurate directions. For the $68.00 I paid, this was a great deal.
Note: I saw another reviewer who stated that the download times for updates from the TomTom Home program were excruciatingly slow. When I backed up the XXL 550 for the FIRST TIME, it took approximately 30 minutes. Subsequent backups have taken 10 seconds or less. Downloading the large map update took about 15 minutes. I didn't find this an unreasonable amount of time.
