(More customer reviews)I purchased the Callaway uPro MX today so I would have it for a golf vacation starting this weekend. Imagine my disappointment to learn that the only measurements the devise will give are to the front, middle and back of the green! That's what "customer service" told me. The promised gee whiz-- nowhere to be found. The courses are pre-loaded, but you have to download the software from a new Upro website, according to customer service. Only the new website doesn't work yet, so the uPro MX does almost nothing and is worth almost nothing.
Callaway offers no explanation on its website and apparently didn't notify retailers. You can't even register the new product to be able to get a personal explanation and updates. "Customer service" said they know the website doesn't work, the software isn't available and the uPro MX therefore has limited functionality, but they don't know or won't say when the problem will be fixed.
I would have bought the Garmin had I known. So warning-- don't buy this useless devise until it gains some functionality. I'll update my review after it does.
Update on 5/25: I found out quite by accident today that Callaway has a uPro MX tech support team-- with an unpublished phone number!
I golfed today and took the new uPro thinking I could at least get distance from the green, as that's what customer service told me. It was fully charged. However, when I turned on the devise at the course, the battery indicator moved from 100 percent to less than half in under two seconds! It also didn't give me distance to the green. So I called customer service back and the rep. said he would transfer me to uPro Tech support. Wow, secret tech support!
Regarding the battery, the tech rep. told me to remove the battery for eight hours and then recharge it. Ugh. He further told me that I had tried to operate the device in the wrong mode and had I been in the right mode, it would have provided most of it's advertised functionality, including distance to hazards and any location on the green. He said he had no idea why customer service told me it would measure only distance to the green.
If he's right, this is all the more surprising because, not only did customer service tell me it wouldn't, but when I complained in an email to Callaway about the supposed lack of functionality, I received a reply thanking me for my feedback, but not telling me that most of the functionality is available without the software. In addition, the little 3 X 5 instruction sheet that comes with the device says step one of "getting started" is to download the software. If the software still isn't available this weekend, I'll find out who is right, tech support or customer service.
On another note, I asked the tech rep. when the software is expected to be available and he quite rudely told me he had no idea and that was not his job. I'm shocked that Callaway has botched this product launch so badly. I'll update my review when and if this product does or doesn't do what it's supposed to.
