(More customer reviews)Being that the Garmin Edge 800 was just released, my options for screen protectors were limited: Option #1 - This screen protector, or Option #2 - No screen protector
I went with Option # 1.
However when I first received the package, I opened it up to find that it actually was for the much, much, (much) smaller Garmin 500 instead. Option #2 was starting to look more appealing to me.
Well, I turned on my laptop to write a complaint only to find that Lisa from Lexerd had already emailed informing me of the error (a manufacturer mix up) and that replacements were on the way. Awesome.
The screen protectors arrived and to my relief, they were indeed the correct size. These protectors are of the "static adhesive" variety. Meaning their use of adhesive is minimal, if any. You can peel off the protector and reuse. I prefer this type to the "use water to apply" kind. (You know which ones I'm talking about) Much easier, less messy and not a huge project to replace with a new one when needed.
The protectors are cut pretty much to size, but not so exact that if you are off a tad, it won't fit. It is just a tiny bit smaller than the actual display. The perfect size for this device actually. Any larger and you would need to keep realigning to install it perfectly. Especially since the E800 has no real straight edges, and lining it up may be difficult (and I am somewhat of an expert at installing screen protectors of all kinds)
Bonus points: This screen protector comes with two finger "condoms" so to speak, to keep fingerprints off the protector's adhesive side during installation. Nice touch.
Pros: Nice cut, fits well, doesn't distort image, protects the much more expensive built-in screen of the touch screen E800. Oh and finger condoms
Cons: Material could be a little thicker. This is tricky, for such a small screen, you actually need thinner material. If it were thicker and less flexible, it would actually be more difficult to install on such a small screen. So this is really just picking nits.
All-in-all, I'm happy with the product. And should this one and the spare I bought wear out, I will definitely buy more again.
And special thanks to Lisa for getting the replacements out so soon and sparing my touchscreen from being subjected to any further unprotected touching.
If you happen to have the new touchscreen bicycle navi's from Garmin, definitely grab one or two of these, much cheaper than buying a new screen for the Edge 800!
