After I got my own act together and set up the device properly it worked like a charm. My problem was missing exactly where the electrical sensors are located on the chest strap; they are not on the hard center section as I initially thought, but further out on the rubber straps. This is important as you must wet these sensors to ensure proper initial electrical contact with your skin; after you begin to sweat it probably takes care of itself. One big plus for me is that the device provides five user-selectable zones to record your heart rate, instead of the more standard three (in-zone, above zone, below zone), thus allowing more detailed information from your workout. I'm looking forward to a software app that provides continuous recording of heart rate over an hour or more, not just times in preselected zones. I haven't tried using it with the GPS yet, but I expect that will be another plus.
